Lately, I've been thinking a lot about love.
There are many different kinds of love. Love for your friends, love for your family, love for your children, love of things you're interested in...the list goes on and on.
Specifically, I've been thinking about pure love. Is it possible to have a pure love for someone? It absolutely is. The catch? It must, and I mean MUST, be grounded in Christ Jesus. Without that foundation, it is impossible to love someone with the I Corinthians 13 kind of love.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. I Cor. 13:4-8
We are human and as such, we could NEVER achieve this kind of love on our own. We must be rooted in the Father of love if we are to give someone a love like this. Without Him in the center, love is conditional and fleeting.
Find true and pure love? Don't mind if I do...
This blog-entry feels very encouraging, especially in the light of renewing romantic affections. Thanks for the clarification of your strong foundational stance, friend Shannon.
